Let’s explore a simple yet effective 3-minute mindfulness meditation that you can do anywhere, anytime to find your peace during this bustling period.

A 3-Minute Mindfulness Meditation for Christmas Calm

1. Find Your Spot: Choose a quiet place where you can sit comfortably without being disturbed. It could be your favourite armchair, a cosy corner of your room, or even a bench if you’re out and about.

2. Settle In: Sit comfortably, with your back straight but not stiff. Rest your hands on your knees or lap. Gently close your eyes if it’s safe or lower your gaze and de-focus to minimise distractions.

3. Focus on Your Breath: Turn your attention to your breathing. Don’t try to change it; just observe the natural rhythm of your inhales and exhales. Feel the air entering your nostrils, filling your lungs, and then leaving your body.

4. Be Present: As you focus on your breath, you’ll notice thoughts popping into your head. That’s perfectly normal. Acknowledge these thoughts, then gently bring your focus back to your breath. This act of returning to your breath is where the magic of mindfulness happens.

5. Embrace the Moment: Continue to breathe slowly and deeply. With each breath, imagine releasing the stress and tension of the festive season. Visualise peace and calm flowing into your body with each inhale, and stress and tension leaving with each exhale.

6. Gradual Return: After three minutes or so, or when you feel ready, slowly open your eyes, or lift your gaze. Take a moment to notice how you feel. You might experience a sense of calm, or simply feel more present in the moment.

7. Carry it With You: As you move back into your day, try to carry this sense of calm and presence with you. Whether you’re wrapping gifts, preparing a meal, or dealing with guests, remember that this oasis of peace is just a few mindful breaths away.
