Did you know that earthing can improve sleep, reduce pain and inflammation, balance immunity, lift your mood, and minimise stress?
.
What is Earthing? Earthing, sometimes called Grounding, is all about direct physical contact with Mother Earth. By removing your shoes and standing barefoot on natural surfaces like grass, sand, or dirt, you allow the immediate transfer of energy from the ground into your body. The earth's surface is rich in electrons, which can offer powerful healing properties.
Why It Matters: Historically, humans walked barefoot and slept on the ground, maintaining regular contact with the earth. This connection allowed a stabilising electric flow throughout the body. However, modern life has created barriers, especially with the invention of rubber and plastic-soled shoes in the 1960s. This separation coincides with a rise in chronic illnesses and inflammatory diseases.
The Science: Earthing benefits come from electrons and the earth's electrical rhythm. These electrons act like antioxidants, reducing inflammation and pain, thinning the blood, and boosting the immune system. The electrical rhythm helps reset circadian cycles and balance cortisol and melatonin levels, crucial for improving sleep patterns.
How to Try Earthing: Just take your shoes off and go outside. Stand, walk, sit, or lie down with bare skin touching the earth. Start with 10 minutes a day, and try and build up to 30 mins a day, either in one go or split throughout the day, and see if you notice a difference.
